CESC U9 Academy Teams

About the CESC Academy

The CESC U9 & U10 Academy focuses on the development of every player, instead of teams at those young ages, as recommended by the United States Soccer Federation (UUSF). The primary reason for the the development of individual players is that, in the past, there has been too much focus on creating winning teams. This has happened so much so that the players' technical skills have never developed enough to carry the player to the next level - tactical skills.

According to Indiana Youth Soccer (IYS), "An Academy is when a club keeps a collection of players within an age group as opposed to placing them on individual teams. Academies do not cut or try-out and all players are encouraged to participate. There are not A, B, and C teams and players instead stay in pools and can be moved according to their progress and development through the seasonal year. The emphasis is on developing players and having FUN! This approach allows clubs to grow players in a pool, foster development over winning, and let these young players play freely. Each club's academy then plays non-result oriented competition against other clubs to organize a "Developmental Academy League".

Goals for the CESC Academy

Keeping the USSF and IYS recommendations in mind, the professional CESC Academy coaching staff will:

  • Help foster the individual ball skills, creativity and love of the game that will create exciting soccer players to play on successful teams and will, in turn, help players reach the next level of play.
  • Have each age group practice in gender specific groups where they are encouraged to be creative when playing soccer, to play without any fear of making mistakes and to express themselves positively on the field.
  • Make sure that all players are being appropriately challenged according to their skill level. All players are evaluated throughout the year to make sure they are developing.
  • Help the players develop a true love and passion for the game so that they don't wait for the next "practice" to develop their skills.
